What is a cavity?

Cavities, also know as dental caries, are holes left in your teeth from decay. Plaque builds up on your teeth, the bacteria found in plaque reacts with sugars and carbohydrates in your diet to produce acid, the acid weakens tooth enamel and makes the dentin more prone to decay and therefore cavities.

Why do I need a filling?

If decay is left to spread, the cavity becomes wider and deeper, eventually it will enter the tooth's nerve canal, this can cause infection or abscess and will require a root canal to fix. It's best to have fillings done as soon as they are diagnosed to prevent spread, and reduce treatment costs.

Composite Fillings

Composite fillings offer a more aesthetic look as they are matched to your existing tooth colour. These fillings are made of glass ionomer materials and bond chemically to your tooth. Opposed to amalgam or silver fillings that bond physically to the tooth and contain different metals.
